Finally the feet of the cup staff are back on earth again and the good feeling of a great weekend has settled in mind. This years Midnight Sun Cup in Bodø turned out to be quite an experience for both visiting and local pilots - thanks to an unusually generous chief in charge of weather combined with the participants joy of flying and their social capabilities. We greet all those who travelled from the south of Norway and those from the polar regions, and not least our visitors from London. For all of you who didn't show up this time - you are very welcome in 1999. The Cup lasted from Friday at 0200 PM until Sunday at 0400 PM the weekend 3. - 5. of July. There were three competition heats of which the two best of each pilot gave the final results. The first heat was from 0100 PM on Friday night until 0200 am on Saturday morning, and with great success. 77 of a total 167 registrated flights were flown in sunlight this night and gave 38 new members in the Midnight Sun Squadron. The number of entries in the competition this year was 71, a number that has been increasing year by year lately. As a curiosity this is 2 more than the first time in 1977, but then the Cup lasted for a longer time, and the number of non-participating pilots was greater. On Saturday afternoon it was clear that the spare heat the next day would not be necessary to decide upon who the winners were, and that Sunday could be devoted to free flight, price - ceremony, baptising and recovering from Saturday evening. This made a significant contribution to the impressive guts shown in the highlights of the evening: barbecue, ropepulling, beach volley, cold baths, quiz and not least the "Music Video Awards".
